Laser Ghost Many Sega arcade games were flagrant rip-offs of American movies. Laser Ghost was Sega's attempt to channel Ghostbusters into a shooting gallery game, where up to three players were guided through a ruined city fighting cartoonish ghost creatures. In essence, it's the vaguely humoruous predecessor to The House of the Dead. (To be fair, The House of the Dead is hilarious for its own reasons, albeit unintentionally.) (Space Gun?) The Sega Master System port borrows the shooting gallery concept, but the rest of the concept is original. Instead of rummaging through a city, you're protecting a little girl named Catherine, as she wanders through a haunted mansion, kind of an expansion on Chiller (ARCADE/NES?). Not a bad concept, but the hit detection is completely terribly - you might shoot something several times and not have it register at all. Thankfully, Catherine has a sizable life bar, so there's plenty of room for error. You can choose to play solely with the Control Pad, or use the Light Phaser in conjunction with the Control Pad, which uses the screen clearing special attack. It's a short, sloppy and ultimately insubstantial game, especially compared to better, earlier SMS titles like Rescue Mission.
