Title |
| "Golden Axe III" is one of the better titles in the series that really takes the Sega Genesis hardware to the limit. Released only in Japan in 1993 by Sega and later on collections such as "Sega Genesis Collection" for PSP and PS2. This is the longest Golden Axe Beat-Em-Up title lasting more than 40 minutes which means it becomes boring after awhile. They also added a VS mode where to players can battle each other which is pretty cool. |

| The story of "Golden Axe III" follows the same trend as all of the others. Hell Bringer brainwashes some of the heroes and then takes control of the castle which you the hero have to save the day. |
Characters |
Kain Grinder
The Ax Battler carbon copy. Or a Stern Blade copy, if you prefer. You would think these two or three guys are related, maybe even the same guy. |
| |
Sara Burn
A carbon copy of Tyrus Flare. Not much can really be said for this character. |
| |
Chronos Lait
A cat man who is one of the better characters in the game. He is fast and has average strength. |
| |
Praoude Cragger
A well oiled muscle man who takes the role
as the heavy wieght character who deals
the most damage. He moves slow and
his moves suck. He's also got one of
the strangest names in the whole series. |
| |
Eve
Eve is a Bird Man who is Hell Bringer's lieutenant. Eve later comes to your side later in the game. |
| |
Hell Bringer
He is main antagonist and resembles Death Adder. He can cast magic on you. |

| The gameplay has undergone massive overhaul since "Golden Axe II" for the Genesis. You can take multiple paths, select more characters, you now can double jump and you have 2 special moves. You can also collect expansions that increase your life and you can rescue townspeople. if you rescue 4 people in distress you get a 1up. You can also destroy some parts of the environment such as signs. The gameplay is fast as always, but there are several faults you notice when you play it. Such as the length and monotony of it after 30 minutes. This hampers the game considerably. |
| |
| Thankfully the play control is solid and the problems with hit detection seems to have been solved. The game is extremely easy to control which helps ease the difficulty of past titles, though it can be hard at times. Though it is sometimes hard to do your special attack. |

| The Music is pretty amazing for a Genesis title. Songs like Ancient Mound and Ride the Whirlwind sound like they were for a different system. The Music was composed by Naofumi Hataya (Nights into Dreans) and Tatsuyuki Maeda (Dragon Force). They also kept the screams for the arcade, but there not as good. |

"Golden Axe III" pushes the system to its limit. You have animated backgrounds, improved use of the color pallet, and vastly improved graphical effects for spells. The sprite artistry is also impressive in some areas especially during the intro. |
