Golden Axe 2 is the first of the 2 Beat'em'ups that were never in arcades. It was released in 1991 by Sega for the Sega Genesis and is also part of the "Sega Genesis Collection" for the PS2 and PSP. Since the Collection also includes Golden Axe I and III, this is the definitive collection. They left the majority of the gameplay alone when it needed to be improved. This makes it an average game that is just about as long as its Arcade predecessor. The cast from the first game returns to kick some barbarian booty. Player_Select

The story is like all the other "Golden Axe" games. The lord of darkness Dark Guld has arisen and he wants to take over the world. Hey at least it isn't Death Adder even though it looks like him.

The lord of Darkness. He looks like Death Adder and they could be brothers for all we know!

The gameplay of "Golden Axe II" is the exact same except for a couple of things. You can now charge magic, thieves have changed into wizards, instead of magic pots you have magic books, and each character has a new special attack. The controls are the exact same and suffer from some slight unresponsiveness. The difficulty is extremely easy compared to the arcade. Also if You put the game on hard it matches up to the arcade on easy mode. magic

The music was composed by Naofumi Hataya (Nights: Into Dreams ) and it really took a slide here. A lot of the tracks are uninspiring. Ravaged City is alright, but Enemy Headquarters sounds a little bit like first "Sonic the Hedgehog".

The graphics have greatly improved from the drab brown look of the first game. They got decent use out of the color pallet. The new sprite art is okay, but it probably could be better. The background are more detailed as well. Otherwise not much else has changed. Throne
