| When “Final Fight” came out companies started releasing their own versions of Beat'Em'Ups. Some of them were great and not so great titles. Sega released “Golden Axe” in order to jump in on the Beat'Em'Up bandwagon and “Golden Axe” actually turned out to be a great game that spawned a few great and horrible titles. In all there have been 8 games released with another one coming out in September 2008 called “Golden Axe: Beast Rider”. The kanji in the Golden Axe logo roughly translates to Battle Axe or Fighting Axe, and there is a katana, hammer, and axe hidden inside the stylized characters. | ![]() |

The “Golden Axe” series was Created by Makoto Uchida (Altered Beast, Dynamite Cop). It's a barbarian themed Beat'Em'Up that is heavily inspired by the “Conan the Barbarian” stories. Whats interesting about this series is that it goes across a wide variety of genres including Beat'Em'Up, Role Playing Game, and 2D Fighter. The series is also known for its fantastic artwork that resembles classic Conan the Barbarian and Frank Frazetta work, though this is something a lot of other fantasy action games borrowed from. "Golden Axe" was popular enough to be made into comic books and even a novel. |

| The whole “Golden Axe” series tell us a tale about a mythical weapon called Golden Axe that can grant its user great power and any wish. The main antagonist is an evil lord called Death Adder who is clad in black armor just to let the player know he's evil. Incidentally, Death Adder is quite similar in design to Frank Frazetta's "Death Dealer" character. Naturally, there are other barbarians who stand up against him. |
